All you need is a smartphone, your South African ID or passport, and a quick selfie. Identity verification is required to keep the platform safe and to comply with financial regulations.
TipHero is a mobile app that allows people to receive digital tips and spend their rewards easily at supported merchants or within the app. TipHero is available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
TipHero does not store or hold user funds. Any balances shown in the app are held with regulated third-party custodial service providers, including VALR (Pty) Ltd.
No. TipHero is not a bank or financial institution. We provide the technology platform, while regulated third-party providers handle wallet and payment services.
You can purchase data, airtime, and electricity directly in the app, or spend your rewards at hundreds of supported retailers. This includes stores like Pick n Pay, Takealot, and QR-code enabled merchants that accept SnapScan or Zapper. Simply scan the merchant QR code using the TipHero app to pay.
TipHero charges a transparent 5% fee on rewards received and a 3% fee on QR-code purchases. We do not charge any fees for in-app purchases such as airtime, data, or electricity.
TipHero is available for download from the Apple App Store for iOS devices and Google Play Store for Android devices.
